The Emerald Ash Borer:
tiny, green, deadly

It’s hard to believe that an insect no bigger than a penny could cost industry in Canada and the U.S. millions of dollars.

But the emerald ash borer is like nothing we’ve ever seen before. It comes from eastern Asia, where it’s not even considered a pest. But since it was first brought to Michigan and the southern tip of Ontario, it’s been chewing through our native ash stocks. Ane each year, it was creeping a little closer to the rest of Canada.

So how do you stop the spread of tiny bugs, that are incredibly hard to detect, from eating trees with no natural defences?

The same way you fight fire. You get rid of the fuel.
