Putting traumatic brain injury on ice
 By Gabrielle Gray

Head injury is the number one cause of death and disability among young Canadians.

Hypothermia may be one possible way to combat the killer. Doctors have long suspected that by cooling a patient's body temperature following a severe head injury, they can help reduce inflammation of the brain and improve long-term cognitive function.

At the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute, a pediatric intensive care specialist has decided it is finally time to put this promising treatment to the test. Catalyst’s Gabrielle Gray looks at how the Hypothermia Pediatric Head Injury Trial is putting traumatic brain injury on ice.
